Yeojeong

Where Home and Village Meets

: Invitation to the Open Structure

Branding, Styling, Visual Design

DESIGN NOTE

Two houses along Bulgwangcheon River, Yeoinsook and Pungnyeon Villa, are like family. Other than having the same landlord and tenants who are close to each other, they are the first and the second project of “Metaphase House.” Metaphase House is an experimental concept coined by the architect Lim Tae-byung, who aimed “casual living,” which is trying to reach somewhere between a village and a house while semi-occupying the living space without sharing with anyone, but at the same time co-living with others. Yeojeong, located on the second floor of Yeoinsook, created for guests two separate houses. Therefore, staying at Yeojeong means you are a guest invited by the families from both houses or even further, a family member.

At 5 p.m., as you grab a key at Mundo E Hoje office on the same floor, your journey begins. You could enjoy interesting activities such as having a welcome drink at Bold Coffee Walk on the first floor of Yeoinsook or Snack Bar on the first floor of Pungnyeon Villa, riding a bicycle on Bulgwangcheon River or exploring nearby restaurants recommended by the families. But here at Yeojeong, doing nothing that involves no activities might be the best option. Except for the window open to the sky, the room is completely secluded from the outside, making the perfect environment for you to focus on yourself or to escape from yourself.

As Yeoinsook was originally built in the location of Dongwon Yeoinsook, various elements of the existing building were brought as a design motif. Rather than specific shapes and materials, the place highlighted more fundamental parts such as size, texture, proportion and action that can physically be remembered. I hope you can slowly experience and share the memories of Yeojeong and Yeoinsook’s space through specific actions such as using carefully prepared furniture and amenities, changing pajamas and making the bed yourself. Your journey will end at 1 p.m. when the light fills the whole space.
