Sihyubeuldang

A Traditional Hanok in Gyeongju Offers Convenience

Visual Design

DESIGN NOTE

In the alleyways of Sajeong-dong, Gyeongju, which has a long history, there is a place named Sihyubyeoldang. Under the theme of rest, four Chinese characters, Time('Si'), Rest('Hyu'), Separation('Byeol'), and House('Dang'), are collected and named Sihyubundang. The original inconvenience of the Hanok was removed and the space was modernly designed in order to create a space that added convenience for many people. When you are missing the arms of Hanok, Sihewbyuldang will provide you with a deep sense of relaxation.

There are three rooms in the Sihewbyeoldang: Sarangchae, Anchae, and Byeolchae. The first floor of a two-story hanok houses Sarangchae, whereas the second floor houses Anchae. The Byeolchae is a corner angled-shaped room, with a two-story hanok and a high wall between it. The Sarangchae consists of a living room, a kitchen, two bedrooms, and two bathrooms. The Saranchae is the largest detached house among the rooms and is distinctive in that the interior space leads to a circular window. There is a great sense of openness in the living room and the kitchen, as they are in the same space. Throughout the year, there is a swimming pool in the yard, so you can relax while enjoying the touch of water at any time. In the Sarangchae, there is an indoor bath, a tea ceremony space, a bedroom, and a bathroom. An outdoor jacuzzi surrounded by green plants provides a unique atmosphere. In the tea ceremony room of the Sarangchae house, visitors can observe the tranquil scenery of stacked tile roofs that characterize Gyeongju. Bedrooms, living rooms, kitchens, and toilets are located in Byeolchae, so it is possible to enjoy a compact rest here. It is convenient to have a fire in the yard as there is a fireplace and camping chair.
